We are pleased to announce that we were this year’s winner for the 2021 Mayor’s Environmental Stewardship Award.

As a leader in the industrial market, we have made the commitment to go green through implementing a stringent recycling program within our facilities. After acquiring our 80,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the spring of 2019 we had recognized that the only thing being recycled was aluminum and stainless steel, despite consuming a variety of other materials. At the time a 30-yard dumpster, consisting of landfill trash which would frequently overflow, was the only thing being utilized. Upon realization, we felt motivated to help our beloved hometown of Fayetteville, AR reach their goal of diverting at least 40% of all waste from the landfill by the year 2027.  ARMI President Brett Wolff and Health Specialist Diane Wolff took on the task of implementing a recycling program. This was an opportunity to not only support the city’s goal, but to also educate employees about the importance of sustainability and the extended producer responsibility of a company within the industrial market.

Our recycling program has been effective in our shop by making it accessible and convenient for our busy hardworking tradesmen. We reorganized the facility and created appropriate collection points with corresponding signage while also keeping employees involved and engaged with the program by requiring efforts and holding them accountable by including recycling as part of their quarterly reviews. Employees are also regularly educated about recycling, and the importance, by reminders that are posted throughout the facility along with discussions being held.

In our efforts we were able to downsize from a 30-yard dumpster to an 8-yard dumpster for non-recyclable trash. Additionally, we have also installed a detention basin for water that collects from our facility’s roof and asphalt parking lot. This basin protects streams and rivers and helps to keep local drinking water pure.

We believe recycling is a responsibility and necessity and our hopes is that the implementation of this program inspires other companies within our industry to make the same changes. Our goal is to continue to research ways that can improve our recycling program and become a more sustainable and responsible producer.
